Visit Philadelphia Zoo’s newly refreshed and upgraded Francis J. Carey Bear Country! This state-of-the-art facility was built with the highest standards for animal care in mind, making it one of the best in the country for vulnerable bears. It includes the addition of a third bear habitat, dedicated behind-the-scenes indoor and outdoor den spaces to support breeding programs, and a brand-new Zoo360 trail - Gould & Potter Crossing – for the bears to explore, the first-ever for bears at Philadelphia Zoo. Not only does Carey Bear Country enhance the Zoo’s animal care program, it creates a dynamic, memorable and educational experience for guests of all ages and backgrounds. This is the biggest construction project at Philadelphia Zoo in over a decade!

Philadelphia Zoo, America’s first zoo, is renowned for innovation in animal care and unwavering commitment to wildlife. A zoo of firsts, Philadelphia Zoo has been a leader since opening its historic gates on July 1, 1874. (Its charter was signed on March 21, 1859, but due to the Civil War the opening was delayed for 15 years). Responsible for the first successful orangutan and chimpanzee births in the U.S., being the first zoo in the world to build an on-site animal care center, developing the first specially-formulated foods for zoo animals, and opening the first Children’s Zoo in the U.S., Philadelphia Zoo has always been an industry leader, setting standards for animal care and guest experiences.

BY ACCEPTING THIS TICKET GUEST AGREES TO HOLD THE ZOO AND ITS EMPLOYEES HARMLESS AND WAIVE ANY CLAIM AGAINST THE ZOO AND ITS EMPLOYEES FOR BODILY INJURY TO GUEST OR DAMAGE TO GUEST’S PROPERTY EVEN IF CAUSED IN WHOLE OR IN PART BY THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE ZOO OR ITS EMPLOYEES.

Visitor grants to Philadelphia Zoo and its successors and assigns the absolute right and permission to use, publish and broadcast Visitor’s picture or likeness (and the pictures and likenesses of Visitor’s minor children), without additional approval, for purposes of advertising or trade in promoting and publicizing the Zoo.

Please check philadelphiazoo.org/visit to confirm hours of operation before your visit. Philadelphia Zoo is typically open from 9:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. from March 1, 2026 through October 31, 2026.
